Behaviour described as challenging.

Utilising support to create an improved quality of life

Maguire Training and consultancy adopt a Positive Behaviour Support Approach when working with services who support individuals who present behaviour described as challenging.

Behaviour described as challenging

The focus of positive behaviour support is to create a plan which increases each individuals quality of life through environmental and lifestyle changes, and truly personalised support. Through increasing a persons quality of life, the by product is a decrease in the level of behaviour described as challenging as the person gains control of their life and can more effectively communicate their needs. The winterborne view concordat cited that if positive behaviour support strategies were used, the abuse that occurred wouldn't have happened. All behaviour is a form of communication. Positive behaviour support focuses on looking at what each person's behaviour is telling us by identifying the triggers, functions and reinforcers of a person's behaviours, and from this, creating a proactive plan of support that aims to address each of these and reduce the likelihood of behaviour occurring.

At Maguire Training & Consultancy we offer consultancy services to work alongside teams to complete functional analysis and more simple behaviour assessment to enhance teams understanding of why behaviour may occur. Through establishing triggers, functions and motivating consequences of the behaviour described as challenging we are able to formulate clear, effective plans to increase the quality of life of the individual which in turn leads to a reduction in the behaviour described as challenging. All such projects are led by our MD Siobhan Maguire MSc - Positive approaches to challenging behaviour.
